Chelsea + Sri / Frutig Farms Ann Arbor Wedding

From the Photographer

This wedding had a lot of BIG FEELINGS. Big laughs, big cries, big LOVE ya’ll. I’ve been to so many weddings that I can’t count them all anymore, and without fail, my favorites are ones like this. Sure, it’s memorable because it was my first Frutig Farms wedding- gorgeous. It was a stunning Ann Arbor venue, with the best wedding vendors, and the best style… but all of those things are frankly forgettable if you don’t have a couple like Chelsea and Sri. Not to mention their incredible family, but I digress.

Looking through these pictures reminds me of why I’m a wedding photographer in the first place. It’s not about perfection. It’s not about technicality or awards. It’s about that Daddy Daughter First Look. It’s about Sri reading Chelsea’s letter. It’s about that post-ceremony high-five, and the laughter during toasts, and the eye-crinkling grins during the special dances.

That’s why I’m a wedding photographer. That’s what I love.

Sam + Ryan / Downtown Market Grand Rapids Wedding

Grand Rapids Michigan Wedding Photography by Adventure Photo Stories

From the Photographer:

This was the dream ya’ll: getting to finally photograph a Downtown Market Grand Rapids wedding, a bride and groom who rolled with the events of the day and just let their team of vendors make magic, a venue that had incredible natural light and botanicals while being protected from the rain that was falling outside, and a rowdy group of guests that filled the space with GOOD VIBES ONLY.

I’ve seen about a million weddings at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market, and I’ve always wanted to shoot there. The lower level is my favorite place to grab a quick lunch from one of the unique food stations followed by a sweet treat from Love’s Ice Cream or Madcap Coffee. Since seating is limited down there, we usually end up grabbing a table in the upper atrium where I would just stare at the wedding event space and dream about the day that I could play with the two story window-walls, clear glass ceiling, and tropical plants that line the entire room.

It did not disappoint. We left for about 10 minutes to grab a couple pictures outside for the sake of variety, but I was able to get some high-end wedding photography accomplished in a short about of time because I was so inspired. The whole day felt effortless. At least for me- the ladies at A Lovely Day Events were working their tushy’s off behind the scenes decorating, coordinating, and getting sh!t DONE. They are incredible.

My favorite part of the night was when I asked all of the guys from Ryan’s rugby team to get together for a picture. After a hilarious group shot, Ryan led the group in their team chant. Sam ran into the middle and it was EPIC.

Sara + Nathan / Asylum Lake Kalamazoo Engagement Session

Asylum-Lake-Kalamazoo-Engagement-photography-session

I will admit it. I was nervous about this engagement photo session. Even though we took pictures at Asylum Lake… a place where I did photography sessions a TON last year, it had been a couple months since I was behind the camera, and I was scared that it wouldn’t come easily. There is a window of time during the bitter winter that I simply have to forget that I’m a wedding photographer. I focus on the behind the scenes aspects of running the business, and don’t pick up my camera. It’s a season that leaves me hungry for warm weather and the engagement photo sessions that come with it.

Sara and Nate were the perfect couple to start this season. First of all, they opted for an Asylum Lake, Kalamazoo Engagement Session which is stunning during golden hour, and second of all, they both have such a genuine joy about them that totally translated into their pictures. One of my favorite parts about this set of images is how dramatic the color changes are. First, everything has a slightly cool blue tone from the lake, then an almost purple haze as the sun slowly begins to fall, and finally that golden warm light that makes everything glow.

Mama’s still got it.

Marta + Christine / Camp Blodgett Wedding Photographer

“Marta and Christine celebrated their wedding with an intimate gathering of friends and family at Camp Blodgett on Lake Michigan. The day was characterized by opposites coming together: boho meets Ikea, with fun color details and a simple, modern look. Planners fox + fern events incorporated their personalities with the comfy blankets on the beach and the wildflower arch against the lake. Wildflowers with splashes of gold throughout brought it all together for complete feeling of relaxation and romance.

Marta specifically requested something “science-y," so they added some glass beakers among the bud vases on guest tables. Christine wanted to make sure to carry through the geometric details with guest favors, so they incorporated himmili airplant holders into the centerpiece design for their friends and family to take home at the end of the evening.

The ceremony revolved around Dr. Seuss’s “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” and was written by Marta and Christine. Instead of a first dance, they led their their guests in a sing-along. Christine began the first verse of “You and I” by Ingrid Michaelson and when Marta began the second verse, the room exploded. By the end of the song, everyone was singing, stomping, and clapping. After dinner, there was a trivia game about the couple, and treats from Love’s Ice Cream.”
