Who would have thought that one of my “destination weddings” for the year would be in Iowa!? When I received an inquiry from a couple who lived out in Vegas, I was so ready to finally shoot a Las Vegas elopement after visiting/driving though about a million times. …Then they told me they were looking for a Des Moines wedding photographer. You might assume that would be a disappointment, but I was even MORE excited because 1. I’ve never been to Des Moines and I love exploring new cities. I’ve been to Vegas a ton because flights are cheap and it’s an easy gateway to that area of the Southwest. This was something new and different. 2. One of my great long-time friends Andrea lives out there with her family and is in the process of opening a kick a$$ coffee shop called Dreiberge Coffee in the Historic East Villiage. 3. It is so so humbling and flattering to have someone fly you out to their wedding because they love your work enough to do that. Travel is one of my great passions and when they couldn’t find a local Des Moines wedding photographer that they loved, they choose ME. Like wow.
Lydia and Victor live life fast and passionately. They exhibit the type of kindness that actively draws you in and makes you family. Their wedding was SO. JOYFUL.
Having never been a Des Moines wedding photographer before, I didn’t know what to expect from vendors in the area, but Bash Events was awesome. It’s a very cool wedding venue in the heart of downtown Des Moines where couples can have both a gorgeous ceremony and reception without moving to a second location. It’s right across the street from the Pappajohn Sculpture Park (which was a great location for wedding photography), and they provided some of the most delicious wedding catering I have ever had. We also contacted Art Terrarium as a rain photo location, but even though it didn’t rain, we loved it so much, we still went. BIG thank you to the shop owner Andrea for being so cool
It was a day that featured WEDDING PUPPIES, a brown-bag special (everyone blindly grabs a shot and has to take it together), reception converse, and HUGE smiles.
